Nu zul je denken waar hebben ze het over Nornen?<\/p>\n

Laat ik een stuk vertellen over de Nornen en hun paden\/Draden die ze spinnen.De Nornen worden onder meer als spinsters omschreven in\u00a0Helgakvi\u00f0a Hj\u00f6rvar\u00f0ssonar.<\/em><\/p>\n

De Nornen zijn de zogeheten schikgodinnen uit de\u00a0Noordse mythologie<\/a>. De noodlotsgodinnen bepalen zowel het lot van mensen als van goden, dwergen en reuzen. Ze wonen bij de bron van Urd onder de wortels van de wereldboom Yggdrasil die de negen werelden van de Noorse mythologie met elkaar verbindt.<\/span><\/p>\n

De schikgodinnen zijn drie zussen: Urd (verleden), Verdandi (heden) en Skuld (toekomst). De laatste word vaak gesluierd afgebeeld, als symbool voor de nog onbekende toekomst.<\/p>\n

Drie meisjes die veel wijsheid bezitten,
\nkomen uit het water van die stam. (van Yggdrasil, red.)
\nVerleden heet de een, Heden de ander,
\nToekomst de derde: zij kerfden in plankjes.
\nZij ontwierpen wetten, bepaalden de levens
\nder mensenkinderen, legden hun lot vast<\/p>\n

Dit kerven in houten plankjes verwijst mogelijk naar het uitsnijden van magische runen. Aangezien het Vikingwoord voor hout ook \u201cgrote plank\u201d kan betekenen wordt hier mogelijk ook bedoeld dat de Nornen de levensdagen van mensen bijhielden. In Noorwegen was het lange tijd ook gebruik om het verstrijken van jaren en dagen met kerfjes in houten muren bij te houden.<\/p>\n
